It’s January and the weather is…. well, it’s blah. Everyone goes a little stir crazy this time of year and with the holiday season and all the stress in your rear view mirror, perhaps it’s time to plan a get away. Let’s look at a few top spots to take small children for a quick getaway this winter!

  • Scottsdale, Arizona- This is the perfect time to visit the desert. The Four Seasons Scottsdale caters to families with amenities such as cribs, baby shampoo and wash and even an extra fridge for milk and formula. They have high chairs and accommodating staff with great paved walkways for strollers. There is a family pool with plenty of shade and a shallow area for kids to splash around.
  • Palm Desert, California- The Marriott Desert Springs hotel offers kid friendly pools and restaurants as well as large suites so there is plenty of room for everyone. There is so much do do in the area including a zoo and botanical gardens. There are also onsite classes for everyone at the rec center.
  • Turks and Caicos Island- Check out Beaches for an all inclusive, family friendly vacation. There are cabanas, plenty of pools and white sandy beaches and the Sesame Street characters. The resort has kids clubs for older kids and teens as well as onsite nannies if you need a little adult time. The restaurants are all very friendly to kids and everything is right on site- no car seats for your entire stay!
  • Disney Cruise– Disney knows kids and they make magic. But the cruise ships take into account adult needs as well. There are amazing restaurants, entertainments and adult only areas so you can get a break while your toddler is dancing around with Buzz Lightyear or their favorite princess.

No matter where you go- be sure to call ahead to resort and ask for information on what they provide for infants- like high chairs, cribs etc.. so you know what to bring and what to leave home. Some resorts now offer fun extras for kids like in room camping gear at the Ritz-Carlton hotels and bikes for use at certain Kimpton hotels. Ask for child friendly dining suggestions as well as a room away from elevator for good napping. Many all inclusive resorts will puree fresh food if asked- but be sure to be wary of cross contamination if there are allergies. Be sure to check with the concierge regarding the availability of local nannies or sitters so you can have a night out.

Don’t forget to pack along a roll of duct tape or painters tape to help baby proof a room. You can use it for sharp edges on coffee tables and also to cover outlets. Bring along supplies and set up a makeshift changing table on the desk in the room. You won’t be doing any work, right?! Keep the room dark in the morning by using the clips on a closet skirt hanger to clip the curtains together. And don’t forget to pack some instant oatmeal or soup. You can use the in room coffee maker for plenty of hot water.
