Outside, the weather is getting warmer, and the days are stretching longer. As flowers start to bud and the sun shines a little brighter, we all begin to anticipate a well-deserved break. Spring break is vacation time—a chance to pause the routine and embrace some fun. School is out, and for many families, that means the older kids are home for the week! While this can be an exciting time, it also requires a little planning to keep everyone entertained and happy.

If you’re a traveling family, planning a getaway can be an adventure in itself. Whether it’s a road trip to a scenic national park, a few days at the beach, or a city escape full of museums and local attractions, the possibilities are endless. Imagine the thrill of a weekend at Hersheypark—roller coasters, sweet treats, and excitement for all ages. Amusement parks are a great option for families looking to make memories, offering something for everyone, from thrilling rides to live entertainment and delicious food. If roller coasters aren’t your thing, consider a trip to Baltimore National Aquarium or the New Jersey science center. We live local to hundreds of regional gems.

But not all spring break fun requires travel. If you’re staying local, there are plenty of ways to keep the kids engaged and make the most of the break. Plan a day at the zoo, where kids can marvel at their favorite animals, or visit a nearby hiking trail to enjoy fresh air and exercise. A picnic at a local park with homemade snacks, frisbee, and outdoor scavenger hunts can also be a simple yet exciting way to spend the day. Take advantage of any nice weather that the season offers.

Spring break is also a great time to explore creative indoor activities. Rainy days or lazy mornings are perfect for arts and crafts projects, where kids can paint, create DIY jewelry, or build fun crafts from household items. Try baking cookies or cupcakes together, letting the kids decorate their own treats. A family movie marathon with homemade popcorn and cozy blankets can turn an ordinary evening into a memorable event.

For those who love a mix of relaxation and productivity, use the week to introduce kids to a new hobby or skill. Whether it’s learning to ride a bike, trying out a new sport, or even starting a family project like gardening, spring break can be the perfect time to bond and explore new interests together. You can also encourage kids to read a book series, start a journal, or experiment with science projects at home. Try using a theme to pull together some activities.

No matter how you choose to spend the week, the key to surviving—and truly enjoying—spring break is balance. A mix of structured activities and free time ensures that everyone gets a chance to have fun without feeling overwhelmed. Whether you’re off on an adventure or making memories at home, the most important thing is to savor the moments with your loved ones.
