You will prepare thousands of meals for your kids in their lifetime. But some of most fun meals are the first ones. And once you have introduced foods and baby gets a little older, there can be wonderful, creative moments of sharing food combinations and meals with you little one. Here are some of our favorites.
Mix together steamed and pureed kale with sweet potatoes and cottage cheese. Kale is a super food and the sweet potato is as well but the balance of the bitter and the sweet with some protein packed cottage cheese is a winner.
Mix together steamed broccoli and spinach with some avocado for a green puree superfood!! This is also excellent to mix with a grain like rice or quinoa.
Scramble eggs with spinach, kale or other veggies. Stir gently to leave big pieces that make it easy for baby to grab with tiny fingers. Or take egg mix and bake for about 15 minutes in a 375 degree oven in muffin tins. Great and easy for taking along on an outing.
Mix together a mashed banana and 2 eggs and cook like small pancakes on a griddle for a wheat free breakfast treat or a yummy snack.
There are some very helpful websites that offer up great ideas for feeding baby and the whole family. A favorite of ours is weelicious.com. Make sure to check out cooking videos and try the frozen yogurt bark for something unique!
Another helpful site is www.nuturebaby.com which has wonderful recipes and nutrition information that keeps you informed. Their site is focused on food for the younger set including a seasonal recipe for pumpkin puffs.
Lastly check out www.wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com. This site has extensive resources in addition to the recipes. Articles such as “what to do when baby has diarrhea”, equipment reviews and when to introduce finger foods make this site a goldmine of information. We love their recipe for baby’s first birthday cake. Yum!!
